I’ve been sitting on the recorded version of this song for a couple of years now. In fact, it came to me ever so gently without a pen, paper or guitare and helped me through a three week tour after suffering a great loss.
Sylvie Pate would have been 21 March 19,2022, but on Nov 1st 2019, her troubled mind tricked her into thinking she wasn’t enough. But she most certainly was. I spent the three weeks following, in shock and immeasurable pain, touring Canada and keeping my scheduled performances. They were the hardest weeks.

Sylvie's family and friends didn’t know she was suffering… she always seemed so ready to lend a hand, an encouraging word or to boisterously laugh things off. She was such a bright young woman and was salutatorian at her graduation only months before her death. I’m learning to speak more about mental health out loud now. If she had shown signs, I could have whispered to her that I understood.. that my mind has also been mean to me most of my life, but that gradually you can learn to push the thoughts into a corner and start seeing things from a new camera angle. That it ebbs and flows, comes and goes. But that hanging in there is worth it.

Sylvie came to visit us to show off her beautiful halloween costume one year… I remember her, so adorable almost yelling JOSS!! Guess who I am?
